Surcam overdenture attachments retain a removable denture on implants with two systems: ball attachments and Wise-Lock, Surcam's own locator-style stud attachment. Both have an internal hex connection and a titanium abutment with a TiN coating, and both come with replacement caps, housings, impression copings, analogs and tools.

Ball attachments

A ball abutment screws into the implant, and an elastic cap in a stainless steel housing snaps over the ball. Choose a straight ball attachment for the 3.75 platform, a wide straight ball attachment for the 4.5 platform, or a multi-position offset ball attachment, straight or 20° angled, that can be seated in 6 positions to line up with the other implants. Heights run from 1 to 6 mm, and caps come in extra soft, soft, standard and laboratory versions.

Wise-Lock stud attachments

Wise-Lock is a low-profile abutment with a full hexagon and a separate prosthetic screw, which limits micro-movement and screw loosening. A PEEK cap grips the abutment for strong, stable retention. Like other locator-style attachments, it uses an abutment on each implant and a replaceable cap in a housing in the denture. It comes straight (1 to 5 mm) and angled at 9°, 18°, 30° and 45° for divergent implants, with hard, standard, soft and laboratory caps and small (4.8 mm) or standard (5.6 mm) housings.

Overdenture attachments connect a removable denture to dental implants so it stays in place but can still be taken out for cleaning. Surcam offers two overdenture attachment systems. Ball attachments use a ball abutment and an elastic cap in a metal housing. Wise-Lock is Surcam's own locator-style stud attachment, with a PEEK cap and angled abutments up to 45°.

Both systems have an internal hex connection and TiN-coated titanium abutments, and replacement caps and housings are sold in packs of 10.

Choosing an overdenture attachment

Ball attachment

A ball abutment with an elastic cap in a metal housing. Simple to place and service, with straight, wide and multi-position offset versions from 1 to 6 mm.

Wise-Lock stud attachment

A low-profile stud abutment with a PEEK cap, Surcam's own locator-style attachment. The full hexagon and separate prosthetic screw limit loosening, and angled versions up to 45° handle divergent implants.

Retention and service

Both systems use replaceable caps in different retention levels, sold in packs of 10, so you can adjust retention or service a denture without changing the abutment.

Lab components

Impression copings and analogs for Wise-Lock, and laboratory caps for both systems, are in this collection.

Frequently Asked Questions

Overdenture attachment FAQ

What types of overdenture attachments are there?

The two most common are ball attachments, where an elastic cap snaps over a ball-shaped abutment, and stud attachments, where a low-profile abutment holds a nylon or PEEK cap. Surcam makes both: ball attachments and the Wise-Lock stud system.

What is a locator-style overdenture attachment?

A locator-style attachment is a low-profile stud abutment screwed into the implant, with a replaceable retention cap held in a housing in the denture. Wise-Lock is Surcam's own locator-style attachment, developed in-house, with its own caps, housings, impression copings, analogs and tools. Use Wise-Lock caps and housings with Wise-Lock abutments.

What makes Wise-Lock different?

Wise-Lock has a titanium abutment with a TiN coating, a full hexagon and a separate prosthetic screw that limits loosening, and a PEEK cap. It comes straight from 1 to 5 mm and angled at 9°, 18°, 30° and 45° for divergent implants.

Ball attachment or Wise-Lock: which should I choose?

Ball attachments are simple and familiar, with offset versions for implants that aren't parallel. Wise-Lock is lower profile, comes in angled versions up to 45° for divergent implants, and uses a separate prosthetic screw to limit loosening. Many clinicians choose by the space available and the implant angles.

How do I correct for implants that are not parallel?

For ball attachments, use the multi-position offset version, straight or 20° angled, which can be seated in 6 positions. For Wise-Lock, use an angled abutment at 9°, 18°, 30° or 45°.

Which caps control retention?

Ball attachment caps come in extra soft, soft and standard. Wise-Lock caps come in soft, standard and hard. Both systems also have a laboratory cap for processing the denture, which is not for patient use.

Which implants do these attachments fit?

Surcam overdenture attachments have an internal hex connection. Ball attachments come for the 3.75 and 4.5 platforms, and Wise-Lock for the 3.75 platform.
