Surcam implant screw removal tools cover the two retrieval jobs that come up most in implant maintenance: a prosthetic screw that won't come out, and a failed implant that has to. The Corkskey universal extractor removes implants with internal hex, external hex and internal tri-lobe connections, and prosthetic screws whose driver slot is damaged. It comes in two versions, CORCKSKEY-L (open left) and CORCKSKEY-R (close right).

For routine screw release, the screw release key comes as a hand release (SES-6013) and a machine release for the contra-angle (SES-0013). All three tools are stainless steel and are supplied non-sterile.

An implant screw removal kit should handle two different problems: a prosthetic screw whose head is damaged, and an implant that has failed and must come out. Surcam's Corkskey universal extractor handles both. It removes implants with internal hex, external hex and internal tri-lobe connections, and prosthetic screws whose driver slot is damaged.

For screws that are tight but intact, the Surcam screw release key comes as a hand release and a machine release. All removal tools are stainless steel, supplied non-sterile, and should be inspected and sterilized before each use.

Choosing an implant screw removal tool

Loose or stuck screw

If the driver still engages the screw head, a screw release key is usually enough. Use the hand release for tactile control or the machine release in the contra-angle.

Damaged driver slot

When the slot is stripped, the driver will only spin. The Corkskey extractor engages the damaged screw so you can turn it out.

Failed implant

The Corkskey also removes implants with internal hex, external hex and internal tri-lobe connections. Avoid excessive pressure, which can break the working tip of any removal instrument.

Before each use

Inspect the instrument for deformation, breakage or corrosion and discard it if damaged. Tools are supplied non-sterile, so clean and sterilize them first.

Frequently Asked Questions

Screw and implant removal FAQ

How do you remove a stripped or damaged prosthetic screw?

If the driver no longer engages the screw head, use an extractor that grips the damaged screw instead of the slot. The Surcam Corkskey extractor is designed for prosthetic screws with a damaged driver slot. Work slowly, avoid excessive pressure, and check the screw and implant connection afterwards.

Which implants can the Corkskey extractor remove?

According to the Surcam catalog, the Corkskey can remove implants with an internal hex connection, an external hex connection or an internal tri-lobe connection, as well as prosthetic screws with a damaged driver slot.

What is the difference between the Corkskey L and R?

The extractor comes in two versions: CORCKSKEY-L (open left) and CORCKSKEY-R (close right). Choose the version that matches the direction you need to turn the screw or implant out.

What is a screw release key used for?

A screw release key loosens prosthetic and abutment screws during maintenance and component replacement. Surcam makes it as a hand release (SES-6013) for manual use and a machine release (SES-0013) for the contra-angle.

Are the removal tools sterile?

No. The tools are supplied non-sterile. Inspect them for damage, then clean and sterilize them before each use as described in the IFU.
