An implant analog, also called a laboratory analog or implant replica, reproduces the implant's connection in the working model, so the lab can build and check the restoration outside the mouth. Choose a lab analog for a poured stone model from a conventional impression, or a digital analog for a 3D-printed model from a scan.

Surcam analogs cover the internal hex Ø3.75 and Ø4.5 platforms, Nobel Active® compatible NP 3.5 and RP 4.3, General and Prime Multi-Units and Wise-Lock. Analogs are lab-only parts and are never placed in the patient.

Lab analog or digital analog?

  • Lab analog (laboratory analog): for a poured stone model. The lab screws it onto the impression coping inside the impression and pours the model around it.
  • Digital analog: for a 3D-printed model designed from an intraoral or lab scan. It seats in the printed model so you can check fit and contacts before delivery.

A lab analog pairs with an impression coping for the same platform, and a digital analog pairs with a scan body. Not sure which platform you're restoring? Check the compatibility chart.

Frequently Asked Questions

Implant analog FAQ

What is an implant analog?

An implant analog is a replica of the implant's connection used in the dental lab. It sits in the working model in place of the implant, so the restoration can be built and checked outside the mouth. Analogs are lab-only parts and are never placed in the patient.

What is a laboratory analog?

A laboratory (lab) analog is an implant analog for a poured stone model. The lab screws it onto the impression coping inside the impression and pours the model around it, so the model reproduces the implant's position and connection.

What is the difference between a lab analog and a digital analog?

A lab analog is set in a poured stone model from a conventional impression. A digital analog is designed to seat in a 3D-printed model from an intraoral or lab scan.

Which analog do I need?

Match the analog to the connection you are restoring: Ø3.75 or Ø4.5 for the internal hex, NP 3.5 or RP 4.3 for Nobel Active® compatible conical platforms, or the General or Prime Multi-Unit analog when the impression or scan is taken at multi-unit level. Wise-Lock overdentures have their own analog.

What are Surcam lab analogs made of?

Surcam's internal hex lab analogs are made of high-grade stainless steel, as stated in the Surcam catalog.
